Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI) has a vacancy in the Information Access research group for a talented
on the topic of evolving knowledge graphs from scientific texts.
In collaboration with Elsevier and Amsterdam Data Science we are looking for a talented post-doctoral researcher with a strong background in NLP and text-mining; expertise in areas related to HCI and/or knowledge engineering is also relevant. Many high quality scientific databases are now being curated manually by human domain experts. In this project we aim to develop methods and techniques to evolve knowledge bases in specific domains (semi) automatically, while optimizing human curation efforts needed to guarantee the quality of each update. In addition, we aim to explicitly model and link entities that play a role in different domains. You will design and develop robust text-mining and other techniques that can handle potentially contradictory information and evaluate these on large corpora of scientific publications to populate knowledge graphs with weighted relationships. You will design and apply metrics to effectively measure the quality of your results, and publish these in top CS journals and conferences. You are able to show the relevancy of your work in the context of a concrete business case.
Candidates are required to have a completed PhD in the area of computer science. A strong track record is needed in or related to the fields of natural language processing, knowledge engineering and/or human computer interaction, as exemplified by publications in related conferences such as ALC, EMNLP, ISWC, IJCAI, EKAW, WWW, UIST or CHI. Required qualifications for candidates include proven research talent and good academic writing and presentation skills. Candidates are expected to have an excellent command of English.
