Academic Leadership Development Course

On 15 September 2020 Informatics Europe hosted the kick-off workshop of the online Academic Leadership Development Course for emerging academic leaders in Informatics and Computing.

Word Cloud ALOC Feedback

This highly interactive and practical course is designed by computer scientists for computer scientists and co-led by Prof. Geraldine Fitzpatrick and Prof. Austen Rainer. The great success of the first of six online sessions is reflected in the positive participants’ feedback:

By now, the third online session took place this week, with continuing great success. So far, the course participants evaluated their strengths as an academic leader and laid the foundation for a positive strengths-based leadership approach in a complex academic environment. Thriving and not just surviving as a leader, is thereby one of the key aspects of the Academic Leadership Development Course.

For the second half, developing a plan of action for growing as an academic leader as well as collecting strategies for communicating powerfully through good attention, questions, listening, and dealing with challenging conversations will be addressed.

While the course combines the participants’ experiences of leading in academia with evidence-based positive leadership research, there are also opportunities for reflection through individual conversations, small-group activities, larger group discussions, and pre- and post-session activities.
