Informatics Higher Education Data Portal: New Data & ACM Publication

Informatics Europe (IE) has recently updated its Informatics Higher Education Data Portal with the data of 2021/22 academic year. We are also proud to announce that a related article has been published in the November 2023 issue of the Communications of the ACM Journal.

The Portal now covers statistics of 12 academic years for 23 countries on students enrolled and degrees awarded at Bachelor’s, Master’s and PhD levels, including information on gender distribution. For selected countries, the Portal provides additional data, such as comparative analysis of key academic positions and related employment details, including estimations of academic salaries. The full downloadable dataset is exclusively available to faculty and researchers of IE members.

Prepared by members of the Informatics Europe Working Group on Data Analysis and Reporting, the article “Informatics Higher Education in Europe: A Data Portal and Case Study” was recently published in the Communications of the ACM Journal. It describes the IE Higher Education Data Portal functionalities and offers - by way of case study research - a data-driven perspective over how informatics education can be studied and improved in a data-driven fashion. We thank the article’s authors Elisabetta Di Nitto and Damian A. Tamburri (Politecnico di Milano), Ismael García-Varea (University of Castilla-La Mancha), Mehdi Jazayeri (Universita' della Svizzera Italiana) and Svetlana Tikhonenko (Informatics Europe) for their contribution and efforts in preparing this study.

Our continued work on the Data Portal, one of IE’s most used and valued services, aims to empower the informatics community to better understand trends and improve issues in informatics (Computer Science, Computing, IT, ICT) higher education in Europe. We invite you to support us in the creation and contribution of analytical outputs and reports as well as the improvement of the IE Data Portal functionalities by joining our Data Analysis and Reporting working group. Additionally, if you are interested in making the state of informatics education in your country better known at a European level, please reach out to This email address is being protected from spambots.
