General Information

Introduction

The Computing Center of the Babes-Bolyai has been founded in 1975. A few years later, in 1977, the Collective of Computer Science has been created as the first computer science kernel of the Faculty of Mathematics. Later, in 1990, the Chair of Computer Science has been formally established.The first undergraduate program of the Faculty of Mathematics, in Computing machinery, dates back since 1961, and since 1971 the faculty runs the undergraduate program in Computer Science.The Department of Computer Science pursues research in the following areas of Computer Science: theoretical computer science, programming languages and paradigms, artificial intelligence, software engineering, information systems and databases, distributed systems, computer systems. The courses cover a broad range of computer science topics and lead to degrees at Bachelor, Master and Doctoral level. Additionally, the Department provides computer science courses for students of other departments of the BBU and continuing education programs.

Organisation

The Department of Computer Science is part of the Faculty of Mathematics of Computer Science. The Faculty has the following structure: - Department of Mathematics; - Department of Computer Science; - Department of Mathematics and Computer Science of the Hungarian line. The Department of Computer Science operates a number of research centers and research groups accredited internally.

Education

Bachelor degree

The Department of Computer Science runs one program of Bachelor studies: B.Sc. (three years) in Computer Science, with teaching in Romanian, Hungarian, German and English, The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science runs a few other programs of Bachelor studies: B.Sc. (three years) in Mathematics, with teaching in Romanian and Hungarian, B.Sc. (three years) in Mathematics and Computer Science, with teaching in Romanian, Hungarian, English. Master degree

The Department of Computer Science runs four programs of Master studies in English, one program in German/English and three programs in Romanian. The faculty also runs three programs in Hungarian. M.Sc. (two years) in Component Based Programming, with teaching in English, M.Sc. (two years) in Applied Computational Intelligence, with teaching in English, M.Sc. (two years) in Software Engineering, with teaching in English, M.Sc. (two years) in High Performance Computing and Big Data Analytics with teaching in English, M.Sc. (two years) in Advanced Computer Systems, with teaching in German/English, M.Sc. (two years) in Databases, with teaching in Romanian, M.Sc. (two years) in Distributed Systems in Internet, with teaching in Romanian, M.Sc. (two years) in Didactics of Computer Science, with teaching in Romanian and Hungarian, M.Sc. (two years) in Design and Development of Enterprise Applications, with teaching in Hungarian, M.Sc. Doctoral Studies/Ph.D. degree

To get admitted as a doctoral student you will first have to find a professor among our faculty who is ready to supervise you thesis. Please look through the web sites of our university professors. Continuing Education

The Faculty of Mathematics and Computer Science has a number of programs of Lifelong Learning and Continuing Education. Some are ongoing programs, and some are proposed for accreditation. The programs in Computer Science follow: Didactics of teaching algorithms, Interpretation of statistical data, Information Technology (for high school teachers), E-learning.
