General Information

Introduction

Informatics at the Alpen-Adria-Universität Klagenfurt is subordinate to the Faculty of Technical Sciences. The Institute of Informatics was founded in 1983 and has since been split into five institutes with nine chairs and approximately 130 members of staff. About 700 students are distributed on the degree programmes informatics, information management and information technology. Research takes a central position with projects focusing on modern information and communication technologies. Our teaching is guided by the research which integrates our students wherever possible.

Organisation

The six institutes are informally grouped in the two departments Informatics and Information and Communication Technology (cf. http://www.aau.at/tewi). The Department of Informatics includes the Institute of Applied Informatics with research groups in Information Systems, Intelligent Systems & Business Informatics, System Security and Semantic Systems Institute of Informatics Systems with research groups in Information and Communication Systems, Interactive Systems, and Software Engineering Institute of Information Technology with research groups in Distributed Multimedia-Systems and Multimedia Communication Institute of Informatics Didactics The Department of Information and Communication Technology includes the Institute of Networked and Embedded Systems with research groups in Smart Grids, Embedded Communication Systems, Pervasive Computing and Mobile Systems Institute of Smart System Technologies with research groups in Transportation Informatics, Control of Networked Systems, and Sensors & Actuators
