Note that the difference between RU and UAS in Ireland becomes less prominent after the creation of Technological Universities (TU) since 2019 under the reforms set out in Ireland’s National Strategy for Higher Education. TUs which are replacing the IoTs (classified in the Data Portal as UAS) have a certain focus on academic research varying across institutions. Therefore, some TUs having strong emphasis on research are more comparable with traditional RU rather than with UAS.

Note that the numbers provided are approximate (1-2% error) because the data is not provided for the individual programs where there are less than 5 students enrolled.

In other countries, except Poland (where RU and UAS institutions co-exist), data is reported separately for each type of institution. 2) Enrolled Students: The data for enrolled students includes those registered for full study programs aimed at second-cycle degrees (Magisterexamen, Masterexamen, Civilingenjörsexamen) as well as those taking individual courses within second-cycle degree programs. This broader inclusion explains the comparatively higher number of enrolled students reported for Sweden. Numbers of degrees awarded include only those who received a respective second-cylce degree (Magisterexamen, Masterexamen, Civilingenjörsexamen), ensuring comparability with data from other countries.
