Job Description
Grade: Assistant Professor
Contract: Permanent, with an integration period
The Board of Directors generally assigns this position for a term of three years if the selected candidate is being appointed for the first time as academic staff at the University of Namur (according to Article 5 of the academic staff statute). At the end of the three-year term, the candidate will be confirmed and appointed permanently, subject to a positive evaluation by the evaluation committee.

Your missions
Within the Faculty of Computer Science, you will undertake teaching, research, and service missions. Specifically, you will be responsible for the following activities:
Teaching activities
- You will teach general computer science courses (web technologies and operating systems) as well as subjects related to your research expertise, covering conceptual, methodological, organizational, and technological aspects.
- You will teach in various programs organized by the Faculty of Computer Science, at both bachelor’s and master’s levels, in daytime programs and, for adults, in evening programs, at the Namur and Charleroi campuses.
- You may also be involved in other programs associated with the Faculty of Computer Science.
- Your course portfolio will be determined based on your areas of expertise and the distribution of teaching among the Faculty’s academics. This portfolio may evolve during your career.
- You will also supervise final-year dissertations and student projects.
- You will implement dynamic and stimulating teaching methods, in line with the institution’s innovative teaching policy (PUNCH).
Research activities
- You will develop your research activities in (at least) one of the Faculty’s areas of specialization, including software engineering, artificial intelligence, programming languages, and security.
- You will conduct research in a current and promising field, both in terms of academic visibility and potential partnerships with industry, with openness to application areas such as those of the Walloon competitiveness clusters.
- You will favor topics likely to lead to collaborations with other academics in the Faculty.
- You will conduct research at an international level, to strengthen and complement the Faculty’s existing expertise.
- You will supervise doctoral theses.
- You will build, lead, and manage a research team.
Community service activities
- You will participate in Faculty Council meetings and other decision-making and consultation bodies of the Faculty of Computer Science.
- You will represent the Faculty of Computer Science and the University of Namur to national and/or international scientific organizations.
- You will participate in activities promoting computer science studies at the University of Namur.
- You will contribute to the reputation of the University of Namur and the Faculty of Computer Science through activities you initiate or to which you are invited as an expert.
Profile
Degree, training, and experience
You hold a PhD in computer science or equivalent. You have:
- Proven expertise in one of the fields targeted by this call for applications;
- Recognized scientific experience demonstrated by international publications;
- Experience and/or skills in teaching at the university level;
- Experience and/or skills in dynamic and stimulating pedagogy.
Skills (knowledge, professional and behavioral skills)
You have the following skills:
- Ability to work in a team;
- Openness, integration, adaptability, and thematic evolution;
- Ability to develop research projects to obtain funding in the Faculty’s institutional and industrial environment;
- Ability to lead or manage a team of researchers;
- Ability to integrate your research results into your teaching;
- Proficiency in spoken and written French, to immediately teach courses assigned to you in French.
The following will be considered assets:
- Expertise that strengthens and complements the Faculty’s existing skills;
- Creativity and sensitivity to pedagogical innovation and interdisciplinarity;
- Extended academic stay at an institution other than where you completed your PhD;
- Proficiency in spoken and written English or commitment to acquire it within the year following appointment; knowledge of other languages is an additional asset.
