The more institutions come together through Informatics Europe, the stronger our collective voice and impact.
The Informatics Europe Ambassador Network brings together members of our community who help strengthen the voice of Informatics research and education across Europe. Ambassadors strengthen IE's connections with national and European communities, promote our activities, encourage institutional engagement, and help identify opportunities for collaboration, policy impact and community growth.
What IE Ambassadors do
IE Ambassadors contribute in ways that fit their expertise, networks and availability, advocating for Informatics Europe whenever suitable opportunities arise through their regular professional activities.
There are no fixed targets or formal obligations. Ambassadors work in coordination with the IE Office or a member of the IE Board, sharing planned activities and keeping in touch on progress. This enables us to provide the right support, align efforts and maximise impact.
Concrete activities may include:
- introducing Informatics Europe and its mission to institutions and colleagues in their national and European networks, including potential new members;
- amplifying IE's impact by supporting the dissemination of IE policy positions and other outcomes;
- encouraging participation in Working Groups, ECSS and other IE initiatives;
- identifying emerging topics, potential collaborations and partners.
Who can become an Ambassador – and how?
Anyone in our community who knows Informatics Europe well, shares its vision, and is keen to contribute to the future of the discipline can become an IE Ambassador.
Ambassadors may be current or former leaders of Informatics departments, faculties and research organisations, but also contributors to our working groups and committees, representatives of national Informatics associations, recurrent ECSS participants, former Board members and any other colleagues who know IE well enough to share their experience and advocate for the value of our community.

Colleagues who successfully help bring a new institution into Informatics Europe are recognised as IE Ambassadors for the following 12 months.
Referral programme
A particularly valuable way to contribute as an IE Ambassador is to help broaden IE’s reach by bringing new institutions into our community, both in countries where we are already represented and in those where we are not yet present.
Identify a potential. Know an Informatics department, faculty, research organisation or other institution that would be a good fit for Informatics Europe?
Share your experience and help us bring them on board! Tell them what you value about Informatics Europe: why you find the association useful, why its mission matters, and how you believe their institution could contribute to and benefit from IE. Your personal recommendation and support throughout the process can make a real difference.
You don't have to do it alone. The IE Office can provide relevant information and introductory materials (e.g. IE activity flyers). Once you have made the initial contact, we can follow up directly with the institution, answer questions and support the onboarding process.
Your contribution is recognised! When your referral results in a new institution joining Informatics Europe within six months, you will receive:
- Complimentary ECSS registration to the next ECSS.
- Ambassador recognition for the 12 months following the new institution's membership.
