AI in Education

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is transforming industries, societies and daily life, bringing both opportunities and challenges. In education, AI is influencing teaching, learning, and assessment in significant ways. Informatics Europe (IE) is actively exploring these developments, leading initiatives, projects and policy recommendations to address the evolving role of AI in education.

AI in Informatics Higher Education Task Force

Launched in December 2025, the AI in Higher Education Task Force is established within the IE Education Research Working Group. It focuses on the impact of AI on teaching, learning, assessment, competencies and curriculum design.

The Task Force is currently conducting a survey of academics across European Higher Education institutions, and contributions to the survey are very much welcome! A landscape report will be produced to inform the community and support discussion at ECSS 2026.

Intended as a continuing initiative, the Task Force plans to pursue follow-up studies to track developments over time, expand data collection and community engagement, and develop recommendations and good practice guidelines. Join the Task Force here (indicate motivation in “Education Research”).

Erasmus + AIM-PRO Project

With IE as an associated member, AIM-PRO (AI Literacy for Multidisciplinary Professional Readiness and Outreach) is a three-year Erasmus+ project, coordinated by the University of L’Aquila (Italy), that aims to advance responsible AI skills across education, training and professional environments in Europe. Started in early 2026, the project brings together 15 partner organisations from nine EU countries to develop innovative frameworks, learning resources and digital tools that foster accessible, human-centred and multidisciplinary AI education. It addresses the growing need for AI literacy in higher education, vocational training and industry, with a focus on sustainable, ethical and adaptable AI practices.

IE participates as an associated member, leading AIM-PRO’s dissemination efforts and mobilising its pan-European network to ensure diverse perspectives are integrated. Supported by Movetia, IE also contributes Swiss educational and professional insights, while its Working Groups provide expert input on Europe-wide education, ethics and sustainable informatics. The association drives communication, stakeholder engagement and the validation of educational frameworks to amplify AIM-PRO’s impact across Europe.
