Growing the next generation of Informatics Education researchers starts with creating opportunities to learn, exchange and connect.
IE’s Summer School on Informatics Education Research (SCHIER) did exactly that, bringing together emerging researchers and educators from across Europe for five days, this year at the University of Glasgow, our co-host and member institute. This year’s school welcomed participants from 14 universities in 7 countries, creating a diverse and stimulating environment to explore challenges and opportunities in Informatics Education Research.
SCHIER is more than a training school. Building and sustaining a strong community of Informatics Education researchers requires continued investment in new talent. As the discipline evolves, we need researchers equipped to investigate emerging challenges, develop evidence-based approaches and contribute to the future of Informatics education. Through expert sessions, hands-on activities and peer exchange, SCHIER provides participants with the knowledge, perspectives and connections to advance their research and become part of a growing European community. It also creates opportunities to exchange experiences and build collaborations that can continue well beyond SCHIER.
We thank all participants, instructors and the University of Glasgow for making SCHIER 2026 possible. We look forward to building on this momentum and further strengthening the European community of Informatics Education researchers.
