	Informatics Europe Bulletin - January 2022

	Dear Members, Happy New Year! We wish you a new year full of success and inspirations. We look forward to your continued support to our cause and activities. In this issue: Support and Share the Open Citations in Informatics Initiative Reconnect: Informatics Europe Academic Leadership course Recent Achievements of the Informatics for All Coalition Association News Board Meetings Executive Committee Meetings National Informatics Associations Meeting New Informatics Europe Members New Board Members for term 2022-2023 Members News New Jobs @ Informatics Europe Job Platform Support and Share the Open Citations in Informatics Initiative At Informatics Europe, our main mission is to foster research, education and knowledge transfer in Informatics. For this purpose we believe that citation data is an essential common good which should be openly available. Open access to citation data would also support better tools for fair assessment of Informatics research. Following our discussions with the National Informatics Associations at ECSS 2021, we have launched an Open Citations in Informatics initiative, where we at first instance collect signatures in an Open Letter to all publishers in the area of Informatics, promoting them to make their citation data openly available. A website presenting the Letter is now open and available for signatures. You can support the initiative by signing the Letter either as your organisation representative or as an individual. Help us create a stronger common voice to promote open citations and open science in informatics – sign and share the Letter for Open Citations in Informatics now! Reconnect: Informatics Europe Academic Leadership course On January 13th, 20 participants from the first three cohorts of Informatics Europe’s Academic Leadership Course (ALOC) reconnected online in a session facilitated by Geri and Austen. The session was organised into three main parts: looking back on how the course has helped, looking at peoples’ current challenges, and looking forward to how we might all help each other and collectively be part of the cultural change within academia. Breakout activities provided opportunities to connect across cohorts: Kim Mens (UCLouvain, IE Board Director and ALOC ’21 Spring participant) briefly updated the participants on the work of Informatics Europe, and Christiane Grünloh (University of Twente; ALOC ’20 Autumn participant) on the reading group that she kindly initiated and coordinates for those who have attended the leadership course. Outcomes included volunteers to help mentor/support PhD students and young women academics, expressions of interest in formally joining Informatics Europe, and expressions of interest in a further course that follows-on from the Leadership Course. Altogether, a very fruitful session! Interested in advancing your leadership skills and meeting other colleagues sharing the same ambition? Register now for the next new cohort of ALOC! Recent Achievements of the Informatics for All Coalition The Informatics for All coalition holds the view that informatics education should exist for all pupils from an early age through secondary education. For the past year, the primary effort of the coalition has been the development of an Informatics Reference Framework for School. The Informatics Reference Framework for School is a high-level report. The 15-page report provides a general architectural framework to guide those developing specific (national or regional) informatics curricula for school. Through a broad review process and further interaction, the coalition is attracting widespread support for the Informatics Reference Framework for School. The report will be published within the next couple of months and presented to the European Commission. With the report, and related initiatives by the Informatics for All coalition, we hope to support the advancement and development of compulsory informatics education for all, particularly from primary through upper secondary education. New Informatics Europe Members We are very pleased to welcome University of Lille, CRIStAL Centre de Recherche en Informatique Signal et Automatique de Lille: our new member from France. CRIStAL joins a growing IE membership of nearly 160 institutions from 34 European countries. Check out our current member list. New Board Members for term 2022-2023 We are delighted to welcome the following new IE board members for the term 2022-2023: Přemek Brada, University of West Bohemia, Czech Republic Manuel Carro, Technical University of Madrid and IMDEA Software Institute, Spain Gordana Dodig-Crnković, Chalmers University of Technology, Sweden Norbert Ritter, University of Hamburg, Germany They were elected by our members at the Annual General Assembly held during ECSS 2021. We would also like thank Asunción Gómez-Pérez (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Spain), Ismael García-Varea (Universidad de Castilla - La Mancha, Spain), Letizia Jaccheri (Norwegian University of Science and Technology, Norway) and Jaak Vilo (University of Tartu, Estonia), for their contribution to IE, whom finished their terms as IE board members by the end of last year. Members News TU Wien, Austria – Digital Humanism Fellowship TU Wien’s Institute for Human Sciences (Institüt für die Wissenschaft vom Menschen) is now accepting applications by Junior Visiting Fellows for their Digital Humanism Fellowship. Candidates are expected to pursue research on digitization’s intersection with societal, economic, and geopolitical dimensions, as well as other relevant research foci from the humanities and social sciences. Two fellows will be invited to spend a period of three consecutive months at the Institute in autumn 2022. Junior Visiting Fellows will receive a stipend of EUR 2,700 per month to cover accommodation, living expenses, health insurance and any incidentals related to their stay in Vienna.
