New Open Access Book on Gender Balance in Informatics

We are excited to announce the publication of Actions for Gender Balance in Informatics Across Europe, the final deliverable of COST Action EUGAIN (2020–2024), of which Informatics Europe was the Grant Holder Manager.

Edited by Birgit Penzenstadler, Karima Boudaoud, Antinisca Di Marco, and Sonay Caner-Yıldırım, leaders and members of the EUGAIN network, the book brings together four years of research into practical guidance for bridging the gender gap in Informatics. It offers actionable recommendations to strengthen the recruitment, retention, and promotion of women in Informatics and technology across both academia and industry. Drawing on insights from diverse audiences and career stages, the book addresses challenges such as low female participation, the leaky pipeline, and barriers in professional environments, offering strategies and resources to increase the equity for women in the field.

Though the EUGAIN Action ended in 2024, its impact carries forward through this publication, dedicated to the memory of its co-chair, Bara Buhnova, and to women across generations. The call for gender balance in Informatics remains urgent, demanding collective effort, long-term commitment, and meaningful action to drive real change.

Informatics Europe is committed to carrying this momentum forward through our Working Groups like Diversity & Inclusion, support for pan-European projects, and influential events such as the European Informatics Leaders Summit, which this year again includes a workshop on the topic. We warmly invite you to take part in our community: exchange ideas, share experiences, and co-create strategies that lead to real impact.
