European Informatics Retention and Graduation Rate Report Published

Informatics Europe and ACM Europe have released the European Informatics Retention and Graduation Rate Report, the first pan-European analysis of student retention and graduation trends in bachelor-level Informatics programmes.

Covering the period 2010–2023 and drawing on the Informatics Europe Higher Education (IEHE) Data Portal, the study examines data from 13 countries to provide unique insights into how well higher education institutions attract and retain students in Informatics, a field where demand for skilled professionals consistently outpaces supply.

The report analyses differences between research universities and universities of applied sciences, explores gender-related trends, and highlights both commonalities and national specificities across Europe. Its findings are intended to inform policy decisions, support institutional strategies, and contribute to strengthening Europe’s academic and technological workforce.

The publication was developed under the guidance of the Informatics Europe (IE) Data Analysis & Reporting Working Group, led by Přemek Brada and Ana C. R. Paiva, with the support of IE Board Directors Enrico Nardelli and Elisabetta Di Nitto, and with additional contributions from Svetlana Tikhonenko of the IE Office.

As part of our ongoing effort, Informatics Europe welcomes new members and contributors to the Data Analysis & Reporting Working Group and the IEHE Data Portal. Broader participation will allow richer coverage, deeper analyses, and more impactful reports that benefit Informatics education and research across Europe. Find out how to contribute here.

The full report is available on our Report Publication page here. Additional data can be accessed via the Informatics IEHE Data Portal (full access for IE members, selected datasets publicly available): https://www.informatics-europe.org/data-portal
