What to Expect from the Evaluation

Informatics Europe evaluations are not about certificates or rankings, but about empowerment.

We provide a comprehensive set of recommendations that help shape policies, strategic planning, and research strategy development. Our goal? To enhance the quality and impact of your institution's research, both now and in the future.

Our process is structured yet flexible, and typically includes:

  1. Preliminary Consultation : A briefing to understand your department’s structure, needs, and objectives.

  2. Self-Assessment :You prepare a structured report using our flexible framework, reflecting your priorities and context.

  3. On-site Visit (1.5–3 Days) : A panel of 3–4 international experts visits your institution to conduct interviews, gather insights, and observe operations.

  4. Comprehensive Report: Following the visit, the panel delivers a detailed, confidential report including strengths, improvement areas, and practical recommendations.

  5. Optional Follow-Up: Upon request, we can provide guidance on implementing recommendations or conduct a progress review.

Each evaluation is tailored to the department’s lifecycle stage, national setting, and institutional strategy.

How Institutions Rate Our Service

Department of Informatics, Systems and Communication (DISCo), University of Milano-Bicocca (Italy)

“We were very satisfied with the overall Department Evaluation process. Informatics Europe provided excellent coordination and support throughout, offering clear guidance and immediate assistance even in a complex setup. The on-site visit was well structured and well timed, with engaging discussions and highly valuable meetings with both, internal and external stakeholders. The final ‘all-hands’ session also sparked a meaningful internal debate. Above all, the Evaluation Committee’s constructive approach stood out; the entire process, including the final report, made it clear that their role was to support our development, not to judge it. We would certainly recommend the Department Evaluation Service: from preparing the self-assessment to the concluding discussions, it was a helpful and inspiring exercise that offered concrete suggestions for improvement.
