Informatics Europe welcomes Lynda Hardman as new President of the Board, along with seven newly elected Board members.

At its annual General Assembly, held during the 11th European Computer Science Summit in Vienna, Austria, Informatics Europe elected a new Executive Committee as well as seven new Board members for a two-year term.

Professor Lynda Hardman, Centrum Wiskunde & Informatica (CWI), the Netherlands, was elected as President of the Board.

The Informatics Europe Board is comprised of 15 members, elected by the association’s members, who hold leading research and academic positions within their respective institutions. With the term of the current Executive Committee members expiring at the end 2015, the newly elected President, Vice-Presidents, Treasurer and Board members will begin their term on January 2016.

In addition to the President Lynda Hardman, the newly elected Executive Committee of Informatics Europe consists of Vice-President Manuel Hermenegildo, IMDEA Software Institute and Technical University of Madrid, Spain; Vice-President Leszek Pacholski, University of Wroclaw, Poland, and Treasurer Stefan Decker, Fraunhofer Institute for Applied Information Technology and RWTH Aachen University, Germany.

New Board members include Gregor Engels, University of Paderborn, Germany; Floriana Esposito, University of Bari, Italy; Hélène Kirchner, INRIA, France; James Larus, EPFL, Switzerland; Mira Mezini, Darmstadt University of Technology, Germany; Luke Ong, University of Oxford, UK and Markus Püschel, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Jane Hillston, University of Edinburgh, UK, and Mehdi Jazayeri, University of Lugano, Switzerland, were re-elected for a two-year term. Anthony Finkelstein, University College London, UK as well as Gérard Berry, Collège de France, France, continue their current term as Informatics Europe Board members.

Lynda Hardman has been board member of Informatics Europe since 2012. At CWI, the national research institute for mathematics and computer science, she is a member of the management team and coordinator of the information theme. In addition, Hardman is a senior researcher in the Information Access research group. Her research focuses on 'human computer interaction’, in particular, the improvement of design methods for user interfaces in the context of evolving technologies.

Lynda Hardman has been named Distinguished Scientist by ACM, the Association for Computing Machinery in 2014. Further, she regularly speaks at events to inspire and encourage a new generation of female talent in computer science.

Lynda Hardman: “Informatics research is a driving force of European economy and society. It is my honour to be able to serve the community in my role as president of Informatics Europe. At a European scale we can increase the quality of informatics research, ensure that educational innovations can be more easily disseminated and also strengthen the development of commercial cooperation across Europe.”

The seven new board members will replace the following members whose terms have expired: current Informatics Europe President Carlo Ghezzi, Politecnico di Milano, Italy; current Vice-Presidents Enrico Nardelli, Università di Roma "Tor Vergata", Italy, and Hans-Ulrich Heiss, TU Berlin, Germany; current Treasurer, Antoine Petit, Inria, France, as well as Board members Núria Castell Ariño, Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya, Spain; Manfred Nagl, RWTH Aachen University, Germany, and Thomas Hofmann, ETH Zurich, Switzerland. Informatics Europe is extremely grateful for their leadership and substantial contributions over the past years and looks forward to building on their legacy with the new Executive Committee and Informatics Europe Board.
