Informatics Europe, alongside our member National Informatics Associations, has issued an Open Letter urging the European Innovation Council (EIC) to recognise software as a key enabling technology in its Work Programme.

Despite being the foundation of modern innovation, software research is missing from the current priorities, risking Europe’s competitiveness, digital autonomy, and ability to tackle key challenges like cybersecurity and environmental sustainability.

With our open letter, we urge the EIC to reconsider its Work Programme by allocating dedicated funding and enhancing public-private collaborations, recognising software as a key enabling technology for innovation and progress in Europe.
