Connecting Consensual National Perspectives and European Strategies
Informatics Europe offers member National Informatics Associations (NIAs) the opportunity to bring forward and represent a consensual national view in Informatics Europe Working Groups. NIAs play a key role in contributing national debates with the outcomes produced by the Informatics Europe community, in supporting its growth and, in sum, in acting as ambassadors of the community in their respective countries.
Enabling pan-European Strategic Collaboration
Informatics Europe facilitates virtual and in-person gatherings to coordinate efforts and networking with and between NIAs in Europe. A dedicated Policy Recommendations Working Group comprising representatives from IE-member NIAs supports the development of consensus-based Informatics policy statements, ensuring national perspectives are reflected. Learn more on the Policy Recommendations webpage. Additional outcomes of IE-NIAs meetings are detailed later on this page.
A Boost for National Impact
If your association is not yet a member of Informatics Europe, contact us at
NIAs' membership benefits are specific to the governing body of the associations and do not extend to their affiliated institutions. Departments and Labs across Europe are encouraged to join Informatics Europe individually to access full Academic Institution benefits (explore here) and strengthen IE's legitimacy and stability to represent the Informatics research and education community across Europe.
In countries where over ⅓ of all potential Informatics departments become members of Informatics Europe, the NIA may join Informatics Europe without a membership fee.

Informatics Research Evaluation, 2025 Revised Report
- Evaluation strengthens research quality and impact when grounded in discipline-specific principles and responsible methodologies. Building on the 2008 and 2018 IE reports, and aligned with CoARA (2022), this update provides recommendations on responsible bibliometrics, artefact evaluation, Open Science, interdisciplinary research, and AI’s role in assessment. It emphasises Informatics’ unique context, the value of selective conferences and open archives, and the need for transparent, criteria-based evaluation. Quantitative metrics must complement, but not replace, expert judgment, while AI should support, not substitute, human evaluators. The report guides researchers for fair, accurate evaluations that reflect Informatics’ evolving landscape.
